There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling den gaming is banned. Eight gambling halls are based in a generally small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect spot, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are apparently required to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is real of many border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling den, features 150 slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of 150 slots and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machines and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 table games, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel building that features many conveniences on top of the gambling den, which houses 10,000 square feet of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight gaming tables.
